Smoked Spicy Baked Beans

Sweet, smoky, spicy, and loaded with meat—these baked beans from ambassador Nick Nesgoda are built to steal the show at any BBQ. Crispy bacon, smoky burger, spicy andouille, jalapeños, and a rich maple BBQ sauce all come together for the ultimate backyard side dish.

Steps

  1. Form the ground beef into ⅓-pound patties and season with your favorite burger rub.
  2. Grill the patties over direct heat using Bear Mountain Red, White & BBQ pellets until fully cooked. Remove, chop into bite-sized pieces, and set aside.
  3. Cut the bacon into bite-sized pieces and cook in a skillet until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, cook the diced onion for 10–15 minutes until beginning to caramelize.
  5. Add the diced green bell pepper and cook for another 5–7 minutes until softened.
  6. In a large foil pan, combine the chopped burger, bacon, sausage, baked beans, onions, peppers, BBQ sauce, ketchup, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  7. Top with sliced jalapeños.
  8. Place the pan on the smoker at 250°F for 45 minutes, stirring every 10–15 minutes.
  9. Cook until the beans are thickened, smoky, and bubbling.
  10. Serve warm.

  • 1 lb. 80/20 ground beef 
  • 1 lb. thick-cut bacon 
  • 12 oz spicy andouille sausage, sliced 
  • 2 cans baked beans 
  • 2 jalapeños, sliced 
  • 1 large onion, diced 
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced 
  • ½ cup spicy BBQ sauce 
  • ¼ cup ketchup 
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup 
  • 2 TBSP apple cider vinegar 
  • 2 TBSP brown sugar 
  • 1 TBSP yellow mustard 
  • 2 TBSP smoked paprika 
  • 2 TBSP garlic powder 
  • 1 TSP salt 
  • 1 TSP black pepper
