Whether you go classic, cheesy, spicy, or everything-bagel crusted, each version brings cozy winter comfort and smoky flavor. Perfect for holiday gatherings, family game nights, or any celebration where you want a crowd-pleasing bite with a wild-game twist.

Steps

  1. Preheat your pellet grill to 375°F. Lightly grease a grill-safe tray or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the puff pastry:
    Lightly flour your work surface and gently roll out each puff pastry sheet just enough to smooth the seams and thin the dough slightly.
  3. Assemble the Bucks in a Blanket

    a) Original Version
    1. Cut pastry into strips sized to wrap around each hot dog.
    2. Place a whole venison hot dog at the edge of a strip and roll tightly.
    3. Brush the seam with egg wash to seal.

    b) Everything Bagel Version
    1. Assemble as the Original.
    2. Brush the outside with egg wash and sprinkle generously with everything bagel seasoning.

    c) Cheese-Stuffed Version
    1. Lay a thin strip of cheese on the pastry before adding the hot dog.
    2. Roll tightly and seal the seam with egg wash.

    d) Cheese + Jalapeño Version
    1. Sprinkle shredded cheese onto the pastry and add a few jalapeño slices before rolling.
    2. Seal with egg wash.
  4. Slice each rolled hot dog into bite-size pieces (optional) and place them seam-side down on the prepared tray.
  5. Whisk together the egg and water. Brush over the tops for a golden finish.
  6. Place the tray on the pellet grill and cook for 18–22 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  7. Enjoy warm with your favorite dips — mustard, BBQ sauce, ranch, or chipotle mayo are all great options.

Ingredients:


Base Recipe

  • 8–10 venison hot dogs (depending on size)
  • 2 sheets puff pastry - thawed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Nonstick spray or parchment paper


Everything Bagel Version

  • Everything bagel seasoning, to taste


Cheese-Stuffed Version

  • 4–6 thin strips of cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella


Cheese + Jalapeño Version

  • shredded cheddar or pepper jack
  • 1–2 fresh jalapeños - thinly sliced
